Rejuvenation and a New Challenge

In the mid-1990s Manny closed his studio, cut back on business travel, and took time to complete the manuscript and photographs needed to finish the book to his satisfaction. In 1998, Smithsonian Press published Rattlesnake: Portrait of a Predator. The 240 page coffee table book contains more than 250 original photographs he had taken specifically for it throughout the US, Mexico, and Central and South America. The reviews were astoundingly positive, and it was chosen by prestigious Choice as Academic Book of the Year. Along with the anatomy, physiology, ecology, and natural history of rattlesnakes the book deals with religion, Native Americans, art, and a searing portrayal of rattlesnake roundups.

Relocating to Arizona was always in the Grand Plan; it reached fruition in late 2003. The new environment, excitement of digital photography, and creative potential of Photoshop have stoked Manny’s creative fires and he is raring to use his photographic talents to face new and exciting challenges.
